Advancing Semantic Alignment: Arrowhead fPVN, DISC, and CFIHOS Semantics Continue Technical Cooperation in Oslo

Following the productive March 2025 meeting at Aker Solutions in Oslo, representatives from Arrowhead fPVNDISC, and CFIHOS Semantics reconvened on May 6–7 to continue strengthening collaboration around semantic standardization and interoperability frameworks. This series of meetings builds upon the foundation established during the inaugural joint session in January 2025 at Arlanda, Stockholm. The Oslo workshop focused on aligning international standards and reference models to the Industrial Data Ontology (IDO). Key progress was shared across the five dedicated working groups:

  • Aligning ISO 10303-239/242 to IDO
  • Aligning CFIHOS Semantics to IDO
  • Aligning DEXPI to IDO
  • Establishing reference data for process plant use-cases
  • Developing modelling guidelines for consistent IDO adoption

To enhance coordination across domains, an expert group was established to work across the existing workgroups and accelerate alignment efforts.Highlights from the technical sessions included:

  • An overview of the Arrowhead Framework by Jan van Deventer (Luleå University of Technology)
  • A progress report on ISO 23726 and ontology-based interoperability by Pål Rylandsholm (DNV/PCA)
  • Insights into the Information Management Framework (IMF) from Arild Waaler (University of Oslo)
  • A presentation on Posc/ PCA’s new Enterprise Reference Data Cloud, offering a streamlined and cost-efficient portal for industrial reference data (Lars D. Berthinussen, PCA)

Participants included representatives from organizations such as Fluor, DNV, PCA, Aker Solutions, Equinor, Tampere University, Luleå University of Technology, TBH Konsult, and the University of Oslo, as well as remote attendees including Péter Olaszi and Andreas Neumann. The meeting concluded with summaries from each workgroup and a set of clearly defined next steps.Special thanks are extended to Jann Slettebakk for hosting the meeting at Aker Solutions, and to Nils Sandsmark from PoSC for his leadership in setting the agenda, guiding key discussions, and concluding the workshop with actionable follow-ups.Looking ahead, the collaboration continues toward:

  • The CFIHOS meeting at ExxonMobil in Houston (October 6–10, 2025)
  • Ongoing efforts under Digitala Stambanan Phase 3, a leading Swedish initiative on digital infrastructure best practices: https://digitalastambanan.se/en/

This ongoing joint effort continues to demonstrate the power of cross-organizational collaboration in achieving semantic interoperability and advancing digital transformation in industrial systems.
